The International College of Liberal Arts (iCLA) at Yamanashi Gakuin University is a four- year, American style liberal arts college in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan. The primary language of instruction is English and International students study Japanese language alongside their degree studies, starting from any level, even complete beginner.

Students can choose from a wide array of courses in various disciplines, learning from an intuitive and practical curriculum. Students also have the option of studying abroad at one of our 60+ partner universities in more than 30 countries around the world.

The innovative courses taught at iCLA lead to a bachelor’s degree in International Liberal Arts. Over 50% of our students and 60% of our faculty members are from overseas, creating a truly multi-cultural environment.

Located just 90 minutes west of Tokyo, Yamanashi is famed for its breathtaking landscapes, historic sites, hot springs, hiking trails, fruit orchards and vineyards, against the iconic backdrop of Mount Fuji.

As part of iCLA’s Bachelor of International Liberal Arts students can declare one of the following four majors: Global Business and Economics, Political Science, Interdisciplinary Arts, and Japan Studies.

iCLA is a residential campus with men’s and women’s dorms attached to our building. Living in the dorms is mandatory for all first year students and a great way to make friends from all over the world! We also have a cafeteria on site serving 3 meals a day on weekdays.

Scholarships available

We offer four tiers (25%, 50%, 75% & 100%) of tuition, equipment and facility fee waiver scholarships awarded based on academic merit and financial need. Scholarship essay must be submitted as part of your application. Results are announced at the same time as offers.

Two Intakes Per Year

We have Spring and Fall intakes every year. Our application process is completely online and has been designed to be as stress-free as possible. Application through to notification of result will usually be completed within a maximum of 40 days.
