The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) is Japan’s leading university and a global leader in higher education and research. Founded in 1877, UTokyo is the oldest national university in Japan, offering a wide range of programs across the sciences, humanities, and social sciences, attracting top students from around the world. In 2027, we will be celebrating our 150th anniversary. UTokyo is now pleased to announce the launch of UTokyo College of Design (UTokyo Design). This college unites creative design approaches with the world-class education and academic resources of the university. It aims to nurture a new generation of leaders capable of transforming today’s complex social challenges into tangible, impactful solutions for the benefit of all. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum and a collaborative learning environment, UTokyo Design empowers students to connect ideas across fields and work together to drive meaningful change in society. UTokyo Design will foster a vibrant learning community that welcomes students with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, experiences, and a strong awareness of social issues. ♦UTokyo College of Design - A five-year integrated Bachelor's and Master's program - 100 students/year with diverse backgrounds from Japan and abroad - Conducted fully in English - Fully residential for first-year students - Active / Project Based Learning - Student-centered education, Academic advisors who offer student support - Studio based learning, Open space for dialogue with others *UTokyo Design is currently being planned for submission to the MEXT for approval, and may be subject to change in the future.
